On December 9, 2016, a new bus station opened at Teremky in Kyiv, becoming one of the capital's largest transport hubs. The station's management and the general contractor approached the project with maximum responsibility at every stage, from the architectural design through to the final fit-out of the technical equipment. Everything was done first-class - the design of the waiting areas, passenger navigation, and the functional layout of the building itself.
Correct placement of storage lockers at the station
At our company we believe this point truly deserves special attention. For the first time in our practice, automatic storage lockers were installed in a genuinely correct spot: right at the station entrance, under the main information board. This is exactly where the main passenger flow passes through - a person with a suitcase sees the storage module the moment they walk into the building, instead of searching for it in some far corner of the hall or on an underground level, as often happens at other stations and metro stops. This placement directly affects how heavily the equipment gets used: the more visible it is and the less a passenger has to wander around the building looking for a free cell, the more actively the storage locker at the station gets used throughout the day.
Cell configuration and functionality
The storage lockers at Teremky station have cells of different sizes, which makes it possible to store anything from small hand luggage to oversized suitcases or sports gear. It's also worth noting that the modules are fitted with built-in chargers for mobile devices - a passenger can leave their belongings under the watch of the automated system, rather than standing in line to hand them to a cashier, while charging their phone at the same time while waiting for the bus. This feature is especially in demand at transport hubs with long waiting times between departures, since it's precisely at bus and train stations that people's devices most often run out of battery mid-journey. We also offer this same charging solution as a standalone product - a charging station for phones and tablets, which can be installed without a storage locker as well, wherever that makes more sense given the available floor space.
The mayor's visit and talks on unified standards for Ukraine's bus stations
The mayor of Kyiv, Vitali Volodymyrovych Klitschko, attended the official opening. Incidentally, we owe him a separate thanks for some useful contacts that came out of the event. We also managed to speak in person with the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure, Yuriy Fedorovych Lavrenyuk. During that conversation, an issue important to the entire industry was raised - the possibility of introducing mandatory standards requiring automatic storage lockers at every bus station in Ukraine. If such an initiative is ever formalized at the ministry level, every major bus station and railway station in the country would eventually be required to plan for an automated luggage storage zone already at the design stage, rather than adding one after the fact, as is often the case at facilities already in operation today.
For us as a manufacturer, the opening of the Teremky bus station became a telling example of what properly planned technical equipment for a modern transport hub should look like - with thoughtfully placed equipment, a convenient range of cell sizes, and attention to the details that directly affect passenger comfort.
